Iberdrola installs over 2,000 charging points at Mercadona locations
According to Iberdrola, the first 2,000 charging points, each with an output of up to 22 kW, have been installed at supermarkets and Mercadona workplaces. However, the exact distribution of the charging stations was not specified in the communication; It merely states that the publicly accessible charging points will be distributed across locations throughout Spain.
Iberdrola has also announced that the 2,000 charging points, which are part of a cooperation agreement signed by the two companies last year, will not be the end of the story. The agreement provides for the delivery, commissioning and operation of up to 3,500 AC charging points at 800 Mercadona locations. However, no time horizon is specified.
With the recent commissioning of charging facilities at branches and workplaces of the Spanish supermarket chain, Iberdrola España says it currently has a network of over 50,000 charging points, of which only 6,500 are publicly accessible.
With this initiative, Iberdrola España aims to further advance its strategy to transition to a zero-emission mobility system and its sustainable mobility plan. Launched in 2016, the initiative aims to install 100,000 charging points in homes, businesses and on public roads by 2025.
