Canberra to get 39 new fast-chargers
The ACT government has earmarked a total of 626,275 AUD (equivalent to about 415.721 USD), which will be divided among four recipients. Namely, the funding will support projects by ActewAGL, BP, ENGIE and Evie. There is no information on the chargers’ technical requirements or possible locations. The media statement simply mentions that they will be DC chargers, placed “in key locations across the city.”
“Winning this Round 2 grant in the ACT highlights our continuing success in expanding the Evie charging network through Government grants, showcasing not only our expertise in delivering EV charging but our commitment to supporting the transition to sustainable transportation,” says Chris Mills, CEO of Evie Networks.
“It’s important to place EV charging infrastructure in convenient locations where people want to go, be it a university, shopping centre, tourism destination or somewhere they visit as part of their daily routine,” says Greg Schumann, ENGIE ANZ Director of Green Mobility.
This is not the first time the ACT government has announced grants for public fast-chargers. In the first round, it funded 39 DC chargers and an additional 21 in the second round. The latter will be delivered by the end of this year.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) first launched an EV action plan in 2018, which ran until 2021. It later renewed its support for electric mobility, also including incentives for electric vehicles.
