Lion Electric presents Lion8 Tractor electric truck

Lion Electric has officially unveiled the Lion8 Tractor. The battery-electric Class 8 truck is expected to be commercially available by mid-2024.

The Lion8 Tractor, an electric truck is stated to be the heaviest electric truck yet, “with the highest gross combination weight rating (GCWR) in the EV truck sector, boasting up to 127,000 lbs.” It is powered by a 630 kWh battery, which allows for a range of up to 275 miles, or 440 kilometres.

Charging the heavy electric truck to an 80 per cent state of charge takes about 1.5 hours and the truck is V2G capable. Additional features “such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and an onboard weighing system further enhance its safety and operational efficiency.”

Lion Electric is known for both its electric trucks and school buses, which are very popular in the USA and Canada. The company made its start with heavy-duty electric buses, before transferring the technology to truck production. Incidentally, the first truck model by Lion Electric was also called the Lion8, but without the ‘Tractor’ moniker. The to expand its product lineup was announced a year earlier. Last year, it was joined by the Lion5, which took a slightly more compact niche in the truck lineup. The current lineup includes the Lion5, Lion6 and Lion8 Tractor
