The 50 new Tesla Semis are to go into operation at PepsiCo’s production and distribution centre in Fresno in the coming months and the 75 Ford E-Transit vans will be used throughout the state. PepsiCo had placed an order for 100 Tesla trucks at the end of 2017. However, as was recently reported, only 36 of these have been delivered. In early 2023, 18 Tesla Semis were also put into the official company livery. Deliveries for the Tesla Semi electric truck were only officially launched at the end of 2022.

PepsiCo intends to deploy the new vehicles across all 13 locations in California, which will serve “a variety of applications, including sales deliveries and service support” there. The US American beverage retailer has been electrifying its operations across the globe, but is banking on different suppliers for different locations. For example, in the UK, PepsiCo is partnering with Einride for its electric trucks.

For its electrification efforts in California, PepsiCo is also benefitting from financial support from the California Air Resources Board, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, and the California Energy Commission as part of its California Climate Investments programme.

“Our fleet electrification is an important part of our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) strategy and illustrates how sustainability is a core business strategy at PepsiCo— good for the planet, good for our business, and good for the communities we serve,” said John Dean, President for PepsiCo Beverages North America, West Division.
