The company announced plans for the Auburn facility in 2022 after previously manufacturing only in Canada. This week’s ramp-up also marks an upgrade to complying with the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program’s (NEVI) standards and the Buy America Act.

The FLO Ultra charger also features the company’s new motorised cable management system, EZLift. It automatically helps to lift cables off the ground and provide extended reach. For users, the system makes the cables feel lighter and easier to manoeuvre, according to FLO.

The company says the new station charges most EVs to 80% in 15 minutes with up to 320 kW in a dual-port power configuration.

“The FLO Ultra charger is set to redefine what drivers expect from public charging stations with powerful charging and versatile design,” added Martine St-Onge, the company’s Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer. “As we ramp up production, we look forward to making it more accessible to own and drive EVs by bringing our FLO Ultra charger to more locations across North America.”

The company was founded as AddEnergie in Québec, Canada, in 2009 and became an official supplier to the province’s ElectricCircuit network in 2012.

Today, FLO claims over 1.5 million charging sessions at over 100,000 fast and level 2 EV charging stations every month and for various partners. These numbers include chargers at public, commercial, and residential locations.

In 2022, the company also scored a multi-year deal with General Motors to supply AC and DC fast chargers for installation at the carmaker’s US premises, allowing staff to charge their vehicles at work.

The Auburn Hills factory is FLO’s third, in addition to two plants at its headquarters in Shawinigan, Québec.
