New Kia EV6 with refreshed design, improved range, and more features unveiled
The new Kia EV6 officially broke cover this morning in South Korea and is now available for customers to order. The facelifted electric crossover comes with an updated design, increased range, improved comfort, and a host of new features for more convenience, safety, and security.
The Kia EV6 has adopted the brand’s new family look with the facelift, as evident in the new DRLs with “Star Map Signature Lighting.” The low- and high-beam lights now lie in a nearly triangular housing, which is vertical and gives the vehicle a more aggressive styling. On the sides, newly designed wheels give the crossover a sturdier look and add to its ruggedness.
Inside, the updated EV6 features a redesigned steering wheel that is flattened both at the bottom and at the top. A taller-looking centre pad with an off-centred brand inscription subtly enhances the feel of sitting in a crossover. The dashboard features a new panoramic curved panel in the cockpit area and a new pattern on the passenger side. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system are new and run on more modern and smoother software. The latter includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
Kia has introduced a fingerprint authentication system for improved security in the EV6 with the mid-cycle refresh and includes it in the centre console. The company has strengthened the rigidity of the vehicle’s body by increasing the thickness of the B-pillar. Thanks to the addition of second-row side airbags, there are ten airbags in the EV6 now.
The new Kia EV6 has upgraded to an 84 kWh battery pack instead of the 77.4 kWh battery of the current model. The new battery pack has higher energy density and delivers a range of up to 494 km as per the strict South Korean testing method. That’s a 4% improvement (+19 km) from the current model (475 km).
Kia offers the new EV6 in a RWD variant and an AWD variant. The former has only one motor, which generates 168 kW (229 PS) and 350 Nm of torque. The AWD variant uses an additional motor in the front and the combination of these motors results in 239 kW (325 PS) of system power and 605 Nm of system torque.
The prices of the new Kia EV6 in South Korea start at ₩55.4 million, which converts to approximately €37,500. Kia expects to commence sales of the new EV6 in its home market in June, as was announced when the vehicle’s design was revealed recently.
