HiPhi shows new signs of life

According to Chinese media, the premium electric car brand HiPhi from Chinese manufacturer Human Horizons is about to resume production. HiPhi recently received a strategic investment from a Hong Kong-based organisation.

The funding will enable the company to restart its operations and production, as the CN EV Post and the Auto Home portal reported. According to these reports, the HiPhi branch in Ningbo (Zhejiang Province) has again invited potential customers for test drives. Furthermore, cleaning personnel was on site in the showroom in Shanghai, which is also seen as an indication of an imminent reopening.

In February, HiPhi announced a six-month break in production due to financial problems. Negotiations with Changan regarding a possible takeover were announced shortly afterwards. However, the financial injection did apparently not come from Changan but from an unnamed investor from Hong Kong.

In addition, there are plans for HiPhi’s three models to be the first to be built when production resumes: There is talk of a “new model based on the HiPhi Y, which will be equipped with additional features while lowering the price tag.” The HiPhi Y is the brand’s third and most affordable model. It is an electric SUV the size of a Tesla Model Y, which has been available in China since July 2023 at prices starting at 339,000 yuan (equivalent to 44,670 euros).
