Milence to build charging park between Malmö and Stockholm
The new charging station will be built on a 10,000 square metre site in Ödeshög, a location on the busy E4 freeway. The distance is 260 kilometres to Stockholm and 350 kilometres to Malmö. The charging hub is located near a logistics centre that is currently under construction.
The opening is planned for September 2024. Initially, there will be eight CCS charging points providing 400 kW of power. In a second phase, the site is to be expanded to 16 charging points and also offer MCS chargers, chargers in the megawatt, or 1,000 kW, range, which corresponds to one megawatt. However, the industry is still waiting for the final version of the MCS standard.
Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, says about this second charging hub in the Nordics: “Sweden is a pioneer in the field of electric road transport, and with the new charging park in Ödeshög, Milence is proud to be a pioneer in connecting the country’s main cities to sustainable energy solutions. This charging park not only expands our network, but also consolidates the green corridor between Stockholm and Malmö and is an important step in our commitment to the electrification of Sweden’s main transportation routes.”
According to the company, the Ödeshög site will offer numerous amenities tailored to the drivers. The planned facilities include a lounge, showers and toilets.
A few days ago, Milence announced that it was building its first Swedish charging park in Varberg between Gothenburg and Malmö. Milence is also installing CCS charging points there first, while MCS charging points are also to follow in a second expansion phase.
Milence is planning to install 1,700 charging points in 15 European countries by 2027 on behalf of its shareholders Daimler Truck, Traton and the Volvo Group. The company’s first charging park opened in Venlo, the Netherlands, in December 2023, followed by a charging park in Normandy, France, in April 2024. The first charging park in Belgium is also about to open, while a German charging park is still a long way off.
We recently reported on how Milence positioned itself shortly before the introduction of megawatt charging, detailing the planning processes and the construction of the sites.
