AST receives US certification for DC Meter
The latter complies with the German calibration law. The company says approval according to French regulations is still pending but should be achieved in June. And the DC Meter now fulfils the requirements for the North American market.
The technology is based on the 3D-Hall platform developed in-house, which, according to the company, “ensures consistently precise measurement over the entire lifecycle even at high currents.” Bidirectional charging processes are also recorded in accordance with accuracy class B (EN 50470-4).
AST points out that its technology differs from other DC meters and is “particularly suitable for use in all fast and ultra-fast charging stations.” That means the DC Meter can be used in fast-charging stations for electric cars, in DC wall boxes (where CCS limits the charging currents to 500 amps), and for megawatt charging of heavy-duty electric trucks and buses.
For the latter, AST will soon offer the DC1500 variant. It would have thus three variants in its portfolio. The DC650 is best suited for fast and ultra-fast charging stations, as it has a measurement range of up to 780A and 1000V. AST also offers a DC meter (DC200) for smaller currents and for use specifically in DC wall boxes. The above-mentioned DC1500 for legally compliant measurement in Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) offers a measurement range up to 1500A at 1250V. And: Suppose the limited installation space in the charging station does not allow the display of the DC meter to be read from the outside. In that case, the device can be extended with an additional display unit (also compliant with calibration law).
