Togg looks to launching exports of the T10X in autumn
The news agency DPA quotes Togg CEO Karakas as saying that the market launch in Germany is around six months away. He does not comment on other potential export countries in the report. Togg has been delivering its debut model T10X in Turkey since summer 2023. The company’s factory in Gemlik, which was inaugurated in October 2022, is designed for an output of 175,000 cars per year.
The launch in Germany this year comes as a surprise. The first exports were originally planned for the end of 2024. However, in the middle of last year, the German newspaper F.A.Z. reported that Togg had postponed the launch of the model in Central Europe until 2025 or 2026 – and then wanted to become active in Scandinavia first. One of the reasons given for the delay was the high demand for the E-SUV in Turkey. “We should first demonstrate sustainable success in our own market,” Togg CEO Karakas was quoted as saying by F.A.Z. at the time. Having organised such a market launch “in our home country does not mean that we can do the same in other markets”.
Now Germany is to be one of the first target markets after all. However, Karakas has not yet provided any information on the price. In Turkey, the T10X starts at 1.4 million lira, or currently around 40,000 euros. For this price, the basic model is available with a 160 kW electric motor on the rear axle and a 52.4 kWh battery for a WLTP range of 314 kilometres.
An 88.5 kWh battery is also available, with which the WLTP range should increase to up to 523 kilometres. The large battery with rear-wheel drive is available with the so-called V2 equipment for an additional charge, while the smaller battery is only available with the V1 equipment. Togg is cooperating with Chinese cell manufacturer Farasis Energy on the batteries. In 2021, the two companies founded the battery joint venture Siro, which had already started test production of batteries in August 2022.
The T10X has numerous displays ex works. The instrument display in the cockpit is twelve inches in size, while the infotainment touchscreen measures 29 inches diagonally and extends all the way to the front passenger. Togg wants to offer an app store for the infotainment, which will also bring some third-party apps into the vehicle. There is also another touchscreen under the air vents, which is apparently used for climate control.
The T10X is said to offer Level 2 autonomous driving, and there is also a special “Rush Hour Pilot”, which allows you to take your hands off the steering wheel at speeds of up to 15 kph. The system is, as the name suggests, intended for heavy rush-hour traffic. The assistance systems can also be updated via over-the-air updates.
The Turkish electric car manufacturer announced the prospect of a second model, the T10F, at the beginning of the year. The saloon, which is planned for 2025, was presented as a near-production prototype at the CES in January. Technical specifications were also revealed there.
