Florida city launches electric bus fleet
According to city officials, the new electric bus fleet ‘Cloud’ is only one part of the city’s planned electric transportation system which also includes e-bikes, electric vehicles, and more. Hallandale Beach’s police department has also procured 13 battery-electric vehicles as part of its service vehicle fleet, along with 49 hybrid Police Interceptor vehicles, marking the largest such police fleet in the USA.
Procurement of the Cloud fleet cost an estimated $5.9 million, including both the vehicles and required charging infrastructure, which benefitted from a $3.4 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation, as well as another $2.5 million from the City itself.
“The City of Hallandale Beach is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2055, and the Cloud bus fleet is just one of many initiatives we’re implementing to achieve this,” said City Manager, Dr. Jeremy Earle. “By embracing clean, electric power, we’re paving the way for a healthier environment and higher quality of life standards that our residents and visitors can be proud of.”
