Interoperability startup Enapi scores €2.5 mn and lists launch partners
Enapi says it set out to improve interoperability between charging point operators (CPOs) and mobility service providers (MSPs) with its platform.
To illustrate the sort of services the tech startup is referring to, take the example of a CPO wanting to offer roaming. This requires the CPO to connect its charging stations to a roaming platform to ensure that users of (other) MSPs can use the charging service. This may include billing but is not as seamless as it may read.
This is where Enapi comes in. The company claims to tackle current issues such as low scalability, high prices, and poor data quality. For EV drivers, these issues can show as inaccurate information about charge point availability and unclear fees for public charging.
Enapi’s Transaction Broker shall change this and enable EV charging transactions using the OCPI standard, an open protocol.
The company has yet to disclose details but has already given the invited companies exclusive access to the tool.
Enapi adds that the funding will enable it to expand its network, enhance the data quality on the platform, and build clearinghouse functionalities to enable charge point connectivity at scale.
The 2.5 million euro pre-seed round was led by Project A Ventures with participation from Seedcamp and HelloWorld.
Philipp Werner, Partner at Project A, comments: “The EV market is at an interesting inflexion point: Adoption is surging, but public charging is still far from being as seamless as conventional fuel charging. We firmly believe there is an opportunity for a reliable and scalable connectivity layer that will be industry-defining, and the founding team of Enapi have the domain and tech expertise to successfully build this infrastructure.”
Enapi was founded by Jakob Kleihues and Dennis Laumen. CTO Laumen has 14 years of experience in the EV industry and helped initiate the OCPP and the start of OCPI. His CEO comes from Bonnet and the venture capital industry.
“Enapi plays a pivotal role in enabling charge point connectivity and creating streamlined collaboration to improve the way we charge our electric cars,” Kleihues commented today.
