USA: Audi gives its 2024 Q4 e-tron a small makeover
First off, Audi has optimised the battery cell chemistry. All models still have an 82 kWh battery (77 kWh net). However, the electric SUV can now fast-charge with rates of up to 175 kW. Previously, it was 150 kW max. That means it now takes 28 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent at a DC charger.
Audi states in its press release that the “e-tron’s route planner also prioritises public DC fast-charging facilities and will thermally precondition the battery to ensure it charges as quickly as possible.” Moreover, a new post-conditioning feature uses the EV’s thermal management to cool the battery if it gets too hot.
Updating the cell chemistry also means the Q4 55 e-tron quattro can go an extra 22 miles between charges (EPA range). In other words, the new EPA range is 258 miles, compared to 236 miles for the Q4 50 e-tron. Audi also added more power under the bonnet. The refreshed electric SUV offers 40 more total horsepower (335 hp) than its predecessor, allowing the EV to go from zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds. The Q4 50 e-tron needed at least 5.8 seconds for the sprint.
The carmaker also emphasises that the new tuning suspension improves the EV’s balance for more comfort and dynamic driving. And “the Audi Q4 55 e-tron responds more immediately to steering changes for greater sportiness and agility.”
The mid-model refresh applies to the 2024 Audi Q4 55 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback 55 e-tron, both of which will be available in US showrooms in April. Prices start at 55,200 and 58,200 dollars, respectively.
