BYD further reduces price of the Seagull in China
The base price of the Seagull has dropped by 4,000 yuan (approx. 510 euros) compared to last year’s version. The small EV went on pre-sale at prices starting from 78,800 yuan, but BYD has since lowered prices by 9,000 yuan (just under 1,150 euros).
The most important facts – unchanged for 2024 – in brief: although the Seagull looks similar to the Dolphin compact model, at 3.78 metres, it is almost 35 centimetres shorter. The model is also based on BYD’s e-platform 3.0, meaning it uses the Blade batteries with LFP cell chemistry. While there is only one version of the 55 kW electric motor, BYD will offer two battery versions – 30 kWh for a CLTC range of 305 kilometres and 38.9 kWh for up to 405 kilometres between charges.
In addition to the ‘Glory Edition’, two other variants of the Seagull are available in China, with prices starting at 75,800 yuan and 85,800 yuan. That is equivalent to 9,660 and 10,940 euros, respectively. The Seagull was already one of BYD’s best-selling models last year. According to CN EV Post, the manufacturer was able to sell 280,217 Seagulls, which means that the small car accounted for nine per cent of total sales.
In China, BYD offers a range of other models, including the Dolphin, in the new ‘Glory Edition’ at discounted prices. The Dolphin “Glory Edition” now starts at 99,800 yuan (12,725 euros), making the compact model around 17,000 yuan cheaper.
The Seagull, previously only available in China, is now also exported: BYD offers the small EV in Brazil and Mexico under the name Dolphin Mini. It is not yet known whether the Seagull – like its slightly larger platform brother Dolphin – will also come to Europe.
