IRS approves Bollinger’s cars for clean vehicle credits
Bollinger Motors has received IRS approval as a “qualified manufacturer” for clean vehicle credits under the Inflation Reduction Act. This designation allows Bollinger’s B4 chassis cab to qualify for the IRA’s new credit for emissions-free commercial vehicles, which provides a tax credit of up to $40,000 per vehicle.
The credit breaks down as follows: One of two options may be taken under Section 45W of the Internal Revenue Code, allowing the lesser of either a purchase credit of 15% of the purchaser’s basis in the vehicle (30% if the vehicle is not powered by gas or diesel); or the incremental cost of the vehicle versus a comparable vehicle with a gas or diesel engine.
“Bollinger Motors is poised for growth and we’re ready to help electrify America’s fleets,” said Robert Bollinger, founder and CEO of Bollinger Motors. “These tax credits are an important incentive for our customers to replace their gas and diesel trucks and lower their total cost of ownership.”
Deliveries of the Bollinger B4 chassis cab are planned to begin in the second half of 2024. The chassis cab for medium-duty trucks was initially introduced in April of 2022. The technical specifications were revealed at the time, however, no production date was set back in 2022. The aforementioned technical specs stand as follows: the Bollinger B4 runs on a rear axle electric drive utilizing an 800-volt platform with LFP batteries. Customers can opt for one or two battery packs, each module claiming around a 100-mile range (160 km), bringing the maximum range to 200 miles.
