Austrian Post makes only emission-free deliveries in Innsbruck
The Austrian Post has electrified its delivery fleet in Innsbruck. It purchased 70 new electric vehicles for this purpose. They complement the existing EV fleet, which comprises different manufacturer models. It includes the Renault Kangoo Z.E. and similarly sized vans from Citroën, Opel and Nissan. The Austrian Post relies on the MAN eTGE or Mercedes eSprinter, among others, for the larger vans with up to eleven cubic metres of cargo space. Meanwhile, in Innsbruck, it’s not just about electric vans: Austrian Post also wants to use EVs and e-scooters there.
Parcels are delivered from the Tyrol logistics centre in Vomp. Letters, print media and direct mail items are delivered from three delivery bases in the Innsbruck city area. According to the Austrian Post, it has installed 126 charging stations and put 145 EVs into operation. The total investment amounts to around four million euros.
Only in May 2023 did the Austrian Post order 703 electric vans from the Chinese SAIC commercial vehicle brand Maxus – specifically 700 units of the Maxus eDeliver 3 model and three units of the larger eDeliver 9. According to the manufacturer, all vehicles were delivered that month and will be used throughout Austria.
The Austrian Post has been focussing on electrifying its delivery fleet since 2022. Its entire delivery fleet will be purely electric by 2030. Alongside Innsbruck, Salzburg is one of the cities with locally emission-free delivery. With the implementation of the “Green Innsbruck” project, the Austrian Post has also put its 4,000th EV into operation. Specifically, the fleet now consists of 1,052 e-bikes, e-cargo bikes, e-mopeds and e-trikes, and 2,970 e-transporters.
