BYD to release affordable compact EV ‘Yuan Up’
The BYD Yuan Up with a length of 4.31 metres will be available from March at prices starting at around 100,000 yuan, which is equivalent to around 13,000 euros. There will be a choice of two power levels with 70 kW and 130 kW and two battery variants with 32 kWh and 45.1 kWh from FinDreams, which allow for ranges of 301 and 401 kilometres, according to the portal carnewschina. Another Chinese website, cnevpost, writes that all three versions of the Yuan Up feature a range of 401 km, citing other media reports. The top speed is set at 160 kph.
The Yuan Up is planned to be released on the Chinese market first, and it remains unclear whether the vehicle will be sold abroad as well. The electric SUV is the manufacturers first A0-segment SUV built on its e-Platform 3.0.
Update 28 March 2024
A few weeks after the presentation of the Yuan Up, BYD launched the new compact SUV in China. The actual prices are now also known: The Yuan Up starts at 96,800 yuan, which currently corresponds to around 12,400 euros. The version with a small battery is available in the basic configuration. It has a CLTC range of 301 kilometres – presumably significantly less in practice.
The other versions use the 45.1 kWh battery and have a CLTC range of 401 kilometres. Both variants differ only in terms of equipment and are offered from 109,800 yuan (14,080 euros) and 119,800 yuan (15,360 euros), respectively.
Rumour has it that the Yuan Up will be coming to Europe as the Atto 2 in 2025.
