Shell installs around 500 charging stations at Carrefour locations in Belgium

The French retailer Carrefour is also equipping its Belgian locations with charging stations. Together with Shell and Redevco, a total of around 500 charging stations are to be installed in the country by 2025. Around 50 charging stations are already in operation.

Shell, Carrefour and the real estate company Redevco, one of the retailer’s “most important real estate partners”, began building charging infrastructure at Belgian Carrefour stores in July last year.

By 2025, a total of around 500 charging stations with two charging points each are to be installed throughout Belgium, which Shell will operate. The 100th charging point went into operation in December. This means that electric cars can currently be charged at the branches in Borsbeek, Ninove, Grimbergen, Koksijde, Kuringen, Hasselt and Edegem Molenveld, among others.

The companies are relying on a mix of AC (with up to 22 kW charging power) and DC charging stations (with up to 150 kW) to set up the charging infrastructure. Current locations usually consist of two high-power chargers and between four and seven AC charging stations.

In addition to Belgium, the French retailer is also building charging infrastructure at its own locations in France. By 2025, a total of 5,000 publicly accessible charging points are to be put into operation at over 700 Carrefour stores in France.

In addition to the fast charging points, there will also be an unspecified number of 22 kW charging points and a free service for charging light electric vehicles such as e-bikes, e-scooters and electric scooters.
