Ram launches ProMaster EV in the US
Regarding drive technology, the Ram ProMaster EV adopts the components that Stellantis presented for the Fiat EV and its sister models from Peugeot, Citroën and Opel at the “Commercial Vehicles Ambition Day” last October. A small side note: at this event, the premiere of the Ram Pro Master EV was announced for 2023.
While the European models have a WLTP range of up to 420 kilometres (the smaller 37 and 70 kWh batteries of the pre-facelift model have been dropped), the Ram ProMaster EV with its 110 kWh battery has a range of up to 162 miles (261 kilometres) in city traffic. However, this value was determined in the stricter EPA test, in which a test bench value (determined according to other specifications) is multiplied by a factor of 0.7 at the end to obtain a more realistic result from the customer’s point of view.
The van’s battery can be charged with 11 kW AC, which means that a complete charging process takes around ten hours – in other words, the battery is fully charged overnight. DC charging is possible at up to 150 kW, meaning fast charging from zero to 80 per cent will be “less than an hour.”
The Ram ProMaster EV is now available to order as a delivery van, with a larger cargo version set to follow in 2025. However, Ram has yet to announce prices. Both models have a 159-inch wheelbase (4.03 metres), although the standard model will be 12 feet long (3.66 metres), while the cargo version can load items up to 13 feet long (3.96 metres).
The Stellantis brand already has a major customer for the model: fleet management company Merchants Fleet has already ordered 12,500 units of the Ram ProMaster EV over several years.
The ProMaster EV is Ram’s first series-produced electric model, but it won’t be the only EV for long. Ram unveiled the series design of the 1500 REV electric pickup truck at the beginning of 2023 and later provided technical data on the model based on the Stellantis STLA Frame platform. The Ram 1500 REV will become available in 2024.
