US electric school bus manufacturer Blue Bird has received its largest order from a school district to date. It will deliver 180 to the LA Unified School District (LAUSD) by early 2025.

The order includes 30 units of the Vision and 150 units of the All American electric school bus. The Vision has room for 72 passengers, while the Alle American can accommodate 84 people.

Both models come with a 155 kWh battery and can go up to 120 miles on a single charge. They also both have AC and DC charging capabilities. “Based on LAUSD’s future charging infrastructure, the buses could take between three and eight hours to recharge fully,” Blue Bird writes in its press release.

According to Blue Bird, the first units will be handed over in October 2024, though the company is not more specific regarding the delivery schedule. However, it says that all vehicles will be delivered by early 2025.

After completion of the order, several LAUSD depots will offer 100 per cent electric student transportation. All of Blue Bird’s electric school buses are fitted with bi-directional charging technology, allowing districts to potentially sell back unused energy in the future.

Blue Bird recently delivered its 1,500th electric school bus to Modesto, California. In May, the company opened its ‘Electric Vehicle Build-up Center‘ in the US state of Georgia. The facility has an annual production capacity of 5,000 units.
