Siemens finalises acquisition of Dutch charging specialist Heliox
Siemens has announced that the acquisition, which was announced in August 2023, has now been finalised on undisclosed terms. In addition to complementing the portfolio of existing charging solutions, the acquisition is also intended to expand Siemens’ market presence, particularly in Europe and North America, and improve its “expertise in the field of power electronics”.
Heliox’s charging solutions range from 40 kW to megawatt charging. The mobile, scalable and parallel charging solutions should enable Siemens to better serve these markets. In addition to the DC fast charging solutions, primarily for e-bus and e-truck fleets, the Dutch company also offers services for monitoring charging points and energy management. “This expands the IoT product portfolio of Siemens eMobility and strengthens the digitalisation and software offering,” the German technology group announced.
Heliox itself is headquartered in the Netherlands and employs around 330 people. The charging infrastructure specialist will be linked to the Siemens eMobility division. This in turn is part of Siemens Smart Infrastructure based in Zug, Switzerland. The takeover will enable the Dutch company to “benefit from Siemens’ industrialisation capacities, global sales network and infrastructure in order to expand its production and meet growing customer demand”, according to a recent Siemens press release.
The technology group has already made several acquisitions in the charging sector over the past two years: In May, Siemens announced the acquisition of the EV division of Mass-Tech Controls, based in Mumbai, India. In 2022, Siemens also acquired a stake in the US charging network Electrify America and WiTricity, a US provider of wireless charging technologies.
