Ford updates prices for the F-150 Lightning
Prices remain unchanged for the F-150 Lightning model year 2023 versions. Meanwhile, premium trucks are getting price cuts of $5,000 to $10,000.
The specific price changes are listed as follows: The Pro variant, listed at a 240 mile EPA-estimated range, went up from $49,995 to $54,995. The XLT 311 A is going up by the full 10,000 from $54,995 to $64,995, while its sister model, the XLT 312 A will be entirely eliminated for 2024. The Flash will cost $73,495, while the 240-mile ranged Lariat will be taken out of the 2024 lineup. The 320-mile ranged Lariat’s price will increase from $77,495 to $79,495.
For the remaining models, which are the Platinum and Platinum Black variants, prices actually decreased, from $91,995 to $84,995, and from $97,995 to $92,995, respectively. These models are also the only ones exempt from the $7,500 tax credit. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) listed above do not include the destination and delivery fees, which range from $1,995 to $2,095.
“No dealer is going to get excited, but at same time it’s not like we’ve never seen pricing actions,” said Tim Hovik, former chairman of Ford’s National Dealer Council and current chair of the Ford Model e subcommittee for dealers. He added: “We’d all like the pricing actions to go down, but, unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the way the world works.”
The move to raise prices as the tax credit changes is an interesting one, as competitor General Motors is taking the opposite approach and discounting its vehicles in order to maintain prices. Ford’s approach to balance the prices against each other is intended to help bolster sales of the more expensive models, however, according to Ford spokesperson Marty Gunsberg, the company expects the XLT and Flash trim variants to be the most popular.
