Audi unveils a raised off-road edition of the Q8 e-tron SUV
Regarding technology, the Audi Q8 e-tron edition Dakar is based on a Q8 Advanced 55 e-tron Quattro. Its battery has a capacity of 106 kWh net (114 kWh gross), and the Quattro drive with its two motors delivers 300 kW in boost mode with a torque of 664 Nm. With the standard tyres, the vehicle can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in 5.8 seconds. With all-terrain tyres, it takes 5.9 seconds. Audi specifies a range of up to 487 kilometres and a top speed of 200 kph.
Compared to the base model, the electric SUV with the all-terrain tyres (“General Grabber AT3”) has 31 millimetres more ground clearance and is designed for better handling on loose surfaces such as gravel or snow. “In the base setting, the vehicle has a ground clearance of 206 millimetres. At higher speeds, the vehicle gradually lowers – by 15 millimetres at 85 kph (53 mph), 17 millimetres at 100 kph (62 mph), and 13 millimetres at 120 kph (75 mph). This optimizes driving stability at high speeds for improved aerodynamics and range,” Audi says.
In combination with the front angle of approach of 20 degrees and the rear angle of approach of 26 degrees, the electric SUV will also be suitable for light off-road terrain. Its ramp angle is 19 degrees. The control strategy of the air suspension has also been adapted to the typical off-road requirements. The wading depth is 300 mm, according to the carmaker.
Limited to 99 units, Audi also offers a “unique decal package inspired by the legendary RS Q e-tron. Starting with the body colour Mythos Black metallic, the car receives a partial embellishment. This means that the wrap uses purposeful transparencies and does not mask the entire surface, even though all exterior components are treated,” the manufacturer explains.
Audi plans to open orders for the edition Dakar model in the first quarter of 2024. In Germany, prices will begin at around 120,000 euros. The carmaker did not specify a starting price for other markets.
