Xpeng launches deliveries of the X9 electric van in China
Xpeng is selling the X9 at prices from 359,800 yuan (around 46,300 euros), making the entry-level version of the electric van 28,200 yuan cheaper than announced at the presentation in November. This means that the base price has fallen by around 3,600 euros.
The X9 was unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show and launched pre-sales in China. Deliveries will now begin in January, as announced. This is the company’s seventh model and the first in the new X series. The previous Xpeng models fall under the P series for saloons and the G series for SUVs.
Since its launch a month and a half ago, it has been known that the up to seven-seater and 5.29-long Xpeng X9 will be offered in two variants with 235 kW front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with an additional 135 kW engine at the rear. In one of the single-motor versions, LFP cells from Eve Energy are used in an 84.5 kWh battery pack, while the all-wheel drive version is equipped with NMC cells from CALB in a battery pack with a capacity of 101.5 kWh. The manufacturer puts the ranges at 702 and 640 kilometres, respectively, according to the Chinese test cycle.
Further key data and photos of the electric car had already become known in mid-September in connection with the application for approval from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Among other things, the 800-volt van based on SEPA 2.0 architecture is equipped with three rows of seats, has a wheelbase of 3.16 metres, but only has a turning radius of 10.8 metres thanks to its rear-axle steering.
“With the launch of the XPENG X9, XPENG enriches its Smart EV portfolio, appealing to the primary market needs and promoting the adoption of autonomous driving,” said He Xiaopeng, CEO and Chairman of Xpeng. “Our goal is to seize growth opportunities through our leadership in Smart EV technologies, enhance organizational efficiency and secure a dominant market share.”
It is unclear whether the X9 will also come to Germany. The company has not yet commented on whether the electric van will also be sold outside of China. At the last IAA, however, the Chinese manufacturer announced its intention to expand into Germany – initially with the P7 and G9 from 2024. The Chinese manufacturer is already represented in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.
