Chery brand Exeed launches electric saloon in China
The now-unveiled Exeed Sterra ES is an all-electric mid-size saloon measuring 4,945 x 1,978 x 1,467 millimetres with a wheelbase of precisely three metres. The model is available in five variants in China, including four single-motor and one twin-motor version. The two cheaper versions are based on a 400-volt platform, the other three on an 800-volt platform.
The single-engine versions are powered by either a 185 kW or a 230 kW motor, while the all-wheel drive version combines a 123 kW and a 230 kW motor and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.7 seconds. The batteries are available in four versions with 60.7 to 97.7 kWh, allowing for ranges between 550 and 905 kilometres according to the Chinese test cycle.
The starting prices of the Sterra ES range from 225,800 yuan – for the above-mentioned base model – to 339,800 yuan for the top model. That means the EV’s starting prices range from about 31,600 to approximately 47,560 USD.
Exeed is Chery’s premium car brand. The brand’s presence in China grow in the coming year – among other things, by establishing a branch network with a good 460 shops. With Huawei, Chery already offers the Luxeed S7, an electric saloon, with a slightly higher entry-level price than the Exeed model.
At the same time, Chery is pushing ahead with its expansion into Europe. According to a September report, the carmaker is focussing on three brands and a broad drive mix. Following market entries in Spain, Mexico, Israel, Turkey, Kuwait, Australia and New Zealand, it will launch in Germany with Omoda, Jaecoo and Exlantix brands.
According to the report, the compact Omoda 5 crossover will launch in Germany in the spring of 2024, initially as a combustion model and later as a BEV variant with a WLTP range of 450 kilometres. A plug-in hybrid is also “conceivable.”
