Irizar scores its first order in Latin America
The busy route is part of the Va-y-Ven public transport system in the city of Merida. It connects the Tren Maya terminal, Umán, Kanasín, the UADY engineering school and Teya with the Plancha Park. Mobility Ado, a Mexican company operating in several countries, will be the operator.
The company opted for Irizar’s ie model in a 12-metre layout with three doors. Each ZEB can carry up to 80 passengers, with 30 seated. For power, the trams offer an inverted pantograph option or in-garage charging with Combo 2 outlets.
Handing over the first tram this week, General Director of Irizar e-mobility, Iñigo Etxeberria, said they were going to make “the most of the convergence of business channels already established in Mexico to give our full support to this project and thus become leaders in Latin America”. Etxeberria added that it was a significant project “because it’s the first time we’ll be implementing our electromobility solutions beyond the European market”.
The ie tram is proving a success for the Spanish company. At home, it holds orders from Madrid, Pamplona or Mallorca and recently scored its first contract in London, UK.
