Prices for the electric estate car had initially been confirmed in June, when the £39,995 price tag had been revealed. The new Astra Electric was initially introduced in November last year when the technical specifications were also revealed: For the drive system, Opel/Vauxhall uses the same technology for the Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric that was already used for the corresponding Peugeot sister models 308 and 308 SW.

The electric drive is a 115 kW unit from the joint venture with Nidec. The electric drive is built in Trémery, France, and offers 270 Nm of maximum torque and a top speed of 170 kph. The battery has a capacity of 54 kW, which allows for a range of up to 258 miles (415 km), according to WLTP. Charging on a 100 kW DC charger takes about 30 minutes from 10-80% SoC on a CCS connection, while a Type 2 charger can take up to 8 hours on a 7 kW home wall box charger or 5 hours and 45 minutes on an 11 kW connection.

In terms of storage space, Stellantis writes: “The All-New Astra Sports Tourer Electric comes with 516 litres of luggage space, increasing to 1,553 litres when the 40/20/40 seats are folded – identical to Plug-in Hybrid variants.”

For context, the Astra Sports Tourer GSe runs on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine connected to an 81.2 kW electric drive for a maximum torque of 360 Nm.

Update 07 October 2024

Vauxhall has introduced revised pricing for the Corsa Electric, Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric, with significant savings on all models. Discounts range from £1,000 for the basic ‘Griffin’ level variant of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric, which now retails at £36,195 to a maximum discount of £4,765 for the Ultimate trim of the same vehicle.

Discounts for the Astra Electric range from none for the entry-level version to £3,865 for the range-topping ‘Ultimate’ variant. The same applies to the entry-level variants of the Corsa Electric with both the standard variant as well as the 51kWh 156PS Long Range, which are both discounted at £4,150 for the range-topping Ultimate variant and £2,850 for the GS variant.

Stellantis also points out that this set of discounts makes it the “first manufacturer in the UK to offer list price parity between electric and petrol hybrid versions of the same car” for its upcoming Frontera models, which will start from £23,495 OTR when orders open.

“The new pricing structure on Corsa Electric and Astra Electric is the latest in a number of measures we have taken to democratise access to electric vehicles – including becoming the first brand in the UK to offer an electric and petrol hybrid car for the same list price with New Frontera,” said James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall.
