Lucid presents the all-electric Gravity SUV
According to Lucid, the Gravity builds on the Lucid Air sedan, creating “a luxury electric SUV without compromise.” It has three rows, room for seven, and a projected range of over 440 miles (708 kilometres). It features “the most power-dense EV motors in production globally.” It has a 900-volt electrical architecture and can go from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
The 900-volt system allows for ultra-fast charging, Lucid emphasises. At a DC charger with 350 kW, the battery can charge up to 200 miles (322 kilometres) in about 15 minutes.
“Gravity will take our customers farther with less batteries and therefore using less precious energy,” says Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO at Lucid. “Its smaller, lighter, and higher technology battery pack means fewer precious metals and minerals, less energy to charge, less electricity consumed, less pressure upon the grid, and a lighter weight and more dynamic vehicle. When we say we’re here to advance the technology, this is what we mean – this is truly sustainability in action.”
The all-electric SUV measures 65.2 inches in height (1.66 m), 78.7 inches in width (2 m), and 198.2 inches in length (5,03 m). The wheelbase is 119.5 inches (3,04 m).
The second and third rows can fold flat, giving the Gravity more than 112 cubic feet of cargo space. It has a payload capacity of over 1,500 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds. Also, according to Lucid, passengers in both rows have ample legroom, “enabling a comfortable seven-passenger configuration, making it the ideal vehicle for every adventure.”
The electric SUV also comes with Lucid’s so-called ‘Clearview Cockpit,’ and an “intuitive 34-inch curved and uninterrupted OLED display that floats above Gravity’s innovative new steering wheel.” The EV also offers over-the-air updates.
“The Gravity SUV represents a significant leap forward for Lucid’s world-leading technology and design. Customers will find an unprecedented combination of space and manoeuvrability, luxury, and versatility, all seamlessly integrated into one remarkable vehicle with the driving experience and range of a true Lucid,” says Rawlinson.
The carmaker notes that the Gravity SUV is in pre-production and that all vehicle specifications are subject to change until series production kicks off late next year. When or if the Gravity SUV will also hit the streets in Europe is not known.
