Candela kicks off series production of the P-12 water taxi
The P-12 Shuttle, first unveiled last year, offers space for up to 30 passengers and costs 1.7 million euros. According to Candela, the price matches that of a similar-sized vessel with a combustion engine.
The Business version is designed for 12 to 20 passengers and has a high-quality interior. The Voyager version is customisable for private and commercial customers, allowing them to change the interior design as required.
Candela does not give prices for the Business and Voyager variants.
Two electric motors provide 88 kW of power. The battery has a capacity of 252 kWh and can be charged with up to 200 kW. The Swedish company gives the range as around 50 nautical miles (93 km) at a top speed of 30 knots, which is about 55 kph.
“With the P-12, we’re not just offering a faster, more comfortable electric alternative to fossil fuel-powered vessels,” says Erik Eklund, Candela’s Director for Commercial Vessels. “We enable operators to make the switch to sustainable vessels that are cost-effective and profitable, a crucial step towards clean oceans and lakes.”
The company tested the P-12 in Stockholm last year, effectively reducing the travel time between Stockholm’s city centre and the suburb of Ekerö from 55 to 25 minutes – which should be particularly attractive for commuters, as the journey time is shorter than by car or metro. The vessel can achieve this, as it is exempt from speed limits.
It will officially be integrated into Stockholm’s public transport network from 2024.
