Iberdrola builds Green Corridor in Brazil
The Green Corridor passes through 70 municipalities and will cover six of the nine states in the Northeast of the country. There will be a total of 18 charging locations along the corridor once the latter is completed. Iberdrola emphasises that 12 of the chargers are, in fact, fast chargers. The remaining six stations are wallboxes that can charge one vehicle at a time. They were installed in shopping malls in Salvador-BA, Recife-PE and Natal-RN.
And the company uses electric trucks for maintenance and construction work of its electricity grid. In Brazil, Iberdrola is active through its subsidiary Neoenergia. It teamed up with BYD for the project, developing a vehicle based on the BYD T7 truck. It is fitted with electro-hydraulic overhead baskets, for example. Also, it can plug in at predetermined points of Iberdrola’s electrical network, meaning the truck can charge while out in the field.
According to the company, the fleet of electric trucks has travelled 29,000 kilometres in the cities of Limeira, Mairiporã, and in the interior of São Paulo. However, the company does not mention how many trucks there are.
“In Brazil, Neoenergia is committed to an Electric Mobility Programme that includes projects to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure and develop new solutions. With our electric truck, we have not only contributed to the creation of a new national product, but we have also innovated in the management of charging and achieved a safe and efficient charging system on the network itself,” says Renato Morais, Corporate Fleet Manager at Neoenergia.
