The all-electric MG4 is now also produced in Thailand. The first locally manufactured unit of the electric car recently rolled off the production line at the car factory of SAIC-CP - a joint venture between SAIC Motor and the Charoen Pokphand Group.

The joint venture’s plant in the province of Chonburi has a capacity of up to 100,000 vehicles per year. In addition to combustion cars, it now also builds electric cars for the Thai market and export. Moreover, SAIC recently inaugurated a battery factory in Chonburi province with a production capacity of 50,000 units per year.

SAIC’s MG brand came to Thailand in 2019 and has offered the MG4 there since September 2022. The compact crossover launched in September 2022 and was explicitly designed by MG as a vehicle for the global markets. In China, the model operates under the name MG Mulan and in overseas markets under MG4 Electric. As reported, the car could also be produced in Europe.

Meanwhile, the portal CN EV Post quotes a study by market research company Canalys from October 25, according to which MG was the leader in Chinese NEV exports in the first half of this year with a share of 25.3 per cent. In other words, MG alone accounted for a quarter of all exported electric cars and plug-in hybrids from China.
