Hylane buys 78 more hydrogen-powered trucks
Twenty-six of the new vehicles in the federally funded procurement announced in May will be built by Iveco. The FCEV tractor units have a range of up to 800 kilometres.
The unique feature: compared to the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell previously leased by Hylane, the Iveco truck does not operate at 350 bar pressure but at 700 bar. The tanks can store up to 70 kilogrammes of hydrogen at a pressure of 700 bar and feed two fuel cells with a good 200 kW of power. The new vehicle will allow Hylane tenants to “gain experience with both systems.” The 350 bar technology is more robust and cheaper. 700 bar offers a higher energy density in the tank, but both the components and the hydrogen at the filling station are more expensive.
Hylane and Iveco are also cooperating with regard to the repair shop network: Hylane customers who rent hydrogen trucks from Iveco and Hyundai can now access several selected and certified repair shops.
Unfortunately, Hylane does not disclose from whom it will purchase the other 52 H2 trucks. Hyundai and Hyzon are known to be Hylane’s other vehicle partners. In April 2022, Hylane also mentioned “Daimler Truck in cooperation with Clean Logistics Technology as well as MAN Truck & Bus or a conversion solution by the company Framo eTrucks using fuel cells from the Robert Bosch GmbH” as possible vehicle suppliers.
“We are pleased about the positive development of the company. We particularly appreciate that we can further consolidate the trust of our existing customers and successfully expand our business with them,” says Hylane’s Managing Director Bernd Zens. “The continuing demand confirms that we are on the right track and motivates us to work even more on our plan.”
