New BMW 5 series goes on sale in the UK
The new BMW 5 series can now be ordered in the UK. The line-up includes two PHEV and two fully electric variants. The latter will be available with two drive versions, the 250 kW eDrive40 and the i5 M60 xDrive with 442 kW output. The BMW i5 eDrive40 starts at £74,105 in the UK, while the BMW i5 M60 xDrive is available from £97,745.
BMW also mentions technical details, such as range, for the first time. According to the carmaker, the i5 eDrive40 has a WTLP range of 296 – 361 miles (476-581 kilometres), while the i5 M60 xDrive can go 282 – 320 miles (454-515 kilometres) on one charge. Torque is 400 and 795 Nm, respectively.
The smaller version can go from 0 to 100 kph in six seconds. And the more powerful M60 xDrive needs only 3.8 seconds. The top speed is 119 and 142 mph, respectively, or about 191 and 228 kph.
The BMW i5 also “debuts several firsts for the iconic saloon,” the carmaker writes. It comes with Veganza upholstery as standard from launch, a first for BMW in the UK, and also features the BMW Interaction Bar first seen in the BMW 7 Series. And the saloon is available with a panoramic roof, another “first time in the model’s history.”
The plug-in versions 530e and 550e sell for £59,455 and £76,550, respectively. These offer an electric range of 63 and 55 miles, according to WTLP, which is about 101 and 88 kilometres.
Moreover, BMW confirms that the “BMW 5 Series Touring, which will also be available with an all-electric drive for the first time, as well as with plug-in hybrid drive and pure combustion engine drive,” will be available in spring 2024.
The Munich-based company unveiled the new 5 Series generation, including the i5, in May 2023, and production in Dingolfing has been underway since July. Deliveries in Germany are already underway.
