Kempower to deliver EV chargers to Milence
Kempower has been selected as one of the hardware suppliers for Milence to develop a high-performance charging network for heavy trucks and coaches in Europe. According to a company statement, Kempower will initially supply its satellite charging systems with CCS and 400 kW power for Milence.
Kempower does not provide details on the quantity ordered. The first deliveries are scheduled to take place at the end of 2023 and in the first quarter of 2024.
Milence is a joint venture founded by Daimler Truck, the Traton Group, and the Volvo Group. It wants to set up a high-performance charging network for heavy trucks and coaches in Europe. The goal is to install 1,700 charging points by the end of 2027.
Milence will rely on different hardware partners, one of which is Kempower from Finland. The Kempower concept envisages slim charging stations (the so-called “satellites”) at the parking space. The power supply units with the majority of the technology can be placed a little bit away. Especially when retrofitting existing (truck) parking spaces, this concept can offer advantages.
“The electrification of heavy-duty vehicles represents an important step towards achieving zero-emission transportation in Europe. Establishing a charger network spanning the entire continent is crucial, as relying on chargers in only selected locations falls short,” says Kempower’s CEO Tomi Ristimäki. “We’re extremely happy to be part of this project, as it is key in driving the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles throughout Europe.”
Earlier this week, Kempower announced that it is launching an MCS (Megawatt Charging System) product, using two existing 600 kW Kempower Power Units for a total output of 1.2 megawatts and its “high power satellite with MCS liquid cooled charging plug.” According to the Finish company, it will start delivering the product as early as Q1/2024. However, so far, the MCS product is not part of the deal with Milence.
