The Chinese manufacturer is considering setting up a dealer network in Europe. So far, the company has relied on direct sales in its first European export markets.

According to the news agency Reuters, sales in Europe have not met Nio’s expectations. The company is thus evaluating potential dealers in key European markets. So far, Nio uses a direct sales system in China and the first European countries, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. Customers can buy or lease Nio’s electric cars directly in the company’s branch offices or online.

One insider told Reuters that the Chinese manufacturer believes Europe has its “peculiarities” but did not elaborate further. A source familiar with the matter commented that dealers would be considered for both Nio-branded cars sold in Europe and the “Firefly” project – a new Nio brand for cheaper EVs that the company plans to export to Europe from 2025.

At the same time, the Chinese EV manufacturer is apparently preparing its further expansion in Europe. LinkedIn posts show employees have been hired in France, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland and Austria.
