BMW to launch deliveries of the i5 this weekend
The market launch will begin simultanously in several other European countries. One week later, on 28 October, the new edition of the BMW 5 Series will then also make its debut on the road in the USA. The other global markets follow on 25 November.
BMW announces the world premiere of the estate offshoot 5 Series Touring, which will also have an all-electric version, for spring 2024. The estate will be “available with the same range of engine options”, according to BMW. With regard to the i5 sedan, this means that the electric estate will also be available with two drive versions, the 250 kW eDrive40 and the i5 M60 xDrive with 442 kW output.
Since the estate will also use the same battery (81.2 kWh net energy content), the range will be below that of the saloon. With rear-wheel drive, the sedan will have a range of 498 to 582 kilometres according to WLTP (depending on equipment), while the powerful all-wheel drive model will have a range of 455 to 516 kilometres.
BMW does not provide exact data on the estate itself – such as the range or the load space volume – nor does it mention prices. The information on the i5 Touring will be known at the latest for the premiere in spring. However, it is already certain that it will not be launched globally (unlike the sedan). “The unique combination of sporty elegance, modern functionality and locally emission-free driving pleasure is developed specifically for the automotive markets in Europe as well as in Japan and Taiwan,” says BMW.
The Munich-based company unveiled the new 5 Series generation, including the i5, in May 2023, and production in Dingolfing has been underway since July. The i5 eDrive40 costs at least 70,200 euros. In addition to the estate car, another all-wheel drive version of the i5 is to be launched in 2024.
