Kia opens order books for EV9 in the US
Kia is now taking reservations for the EV9 in the US. According to the carmaker, there is “a limited number of reservation requests available,” though it does not say how many. US customers who reserve the electric SUV for a 750-dollar downpayment by 27 November receive a credit for 1,000 kWh of charging with Electrify America and other gifts.
The top level, the GT-Line AWD, is available from 73,900 dollars. It has an estimated EPA range of 270 miles (434,5 kilometres), a 99.8 kWh battery, and a 5,000 lb towing capacity (approximately 2,3 tons).
The variant with the longest estimated range is the Light Long Range RWD variant, available from 59,200 dollars. It can go up to 304 miles (489 kilometres) on a single charge. It, too, is fitted with a 99.8 kWh battery and has room for six passengers.
Prices for the Light RWD variant start at 54,900 dollars. The basic model has an estimated EPA range of 230 miles (370 kilometres) and a 76.1 kWh battery pack. It has room for seven passengers, a 110v onboard power generator, and a V2L interior outlet in the cargo area. However, that model is not yet available for reservation.
Just recently, Barcelona-based Wallbox Chargers and Kia America announced that they would be working together to enable bidirectional charging for customers driving a Kia EV9 in the US. Drivers could thus use the electric car to power their homes or feed energy into the grid – and reduce their electricity bill.
The Kia EV9 was first presented in March. It is the carmaker’s second model based on the group’s E-GMP platform. The first is the EV6. The electric SUV has been available in South Korea since June. A week later, Kia published the first prices for Europe, specifically for Belgium and the UK. There, the manufacturer will also initially offer the versions with a 99.8 kWh battery only.
