Autel gets ready to produce EV chargers in North Carolina
Autel will start producing its MaxiCharger 180kw–240kw DC Fast in North Carolina later this month. The company is aiming for an annual capacity of 5,000 units. Autel bought the 200,000 sq. ft. facility in Greensboro in the US state earlier this year and has since modernised it.
According to the manufacturer, the MaxiCharger 180kw–240kw DC Fast qualifies for the US National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding programme, and meets the ‘Build America, Buy America’ requirements. As part of the former, the US Department of Transportation and Energy provides nearly $5 billion in funding over five years to help states build the network, particularly along highways.
Autel was founded in 2004, with the aim of developing and supplying automotive intelligent diagnostic, inspection and analysis products and solutions. It began making EV chargers in 2021 and it currently present in more than 70 countries, including the US, Germany and UK.
Some 150 people will work at the plant in North Carolina. In five years, the company hopes to create 400 jobs.
