Jaguar’s debut EV trio to be a GT, an SUV and a sedan
Slowly new details about Jaguar’s new start as an electric brand from 2025 are becoming known. According to a portal report, the three models that Jaguar is planning on the basis of the new electric platform JEA will be a four-seater GT, a luxury SUV and a large sedan.
As the usually well-informed British portal Autocar reports, the prices for the three new electric models from Jaguar will start between 100,000 and 125,000 pounds (116,000 to 145,000 euros). They all have four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and batteries that can be charged from ten to 80 per cent in 13 minutes. The drive power is to be at least 336 kW in each case and the ranges between 385 and 475 miles (the equivalent of 619 to 764 kilometres).
According to information from Autocar, the four-door GT from Jaguar will be presented at the end of 2024 as the first model of the new electric trio and will go on sale in 2025. The other two electric cars will follow at least one year apart. According to Autocar’s sources, Jaguar’s electric SUV will be about the size of a Bentley Bentayga and the new e-sedan will be comparable in size to the Bentley Mulsanne.
According to the portal, the sales target for the new Jaguar electric cars is 4,000 units per month. The I-Pace will not be able to contribute to this: It was recently announced that Jaguar’s only current electric model will be phased out in 2025. With this, the current JLR boss Adrian Mardell is changing the plan of his predecessor Thierry Bolloré, who wanted to continue offering the I-Pace together with Jaguar’s new electric models.
Mardell recently told Autocar that all current Jaguar models will have to be withdrawn from sale by 2025 because they will no longer resemble their successors. Specifically, he is quoted as saying: “When we launch our new JEA platform, the change from today on Jaguar is very dramatic. We don’t want older-looking cars and newer-looking cars.”
No official details have yet been made public on the design of the new trio. Autocar, citing insiders, reports that the look of the new Jaguar will be more minimalist and that, for example, none of the three cars will have a rear window – similar to the one used by Swedish electric car maker Polestar. In addition, according to information from the portal, the emblem of the leaping Jaguar will disappear and be replaced by the lettering “Jaguar”.
In February 2021, JLR announced that Jaguar would become an all-electric brand from 2025.
