BMW to show Neue Klasse electric vehicles at IAA

BMW has announced a number of all-electric world premieres for the IAA Mobility show starting soon in Munich. Some vehicles, including two electric minis and a new BMW study, will be unveiled ahead of the show.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled on 2 September, offering a concrete look at the German carmaker’s electric vehicles. As BMW CEO Oliver Zipse recently explained in the conference call on the latest quarterly figures, the new electric flagship for the carmaker’s Vision Neue Klasse is close to series production and will soon be on the road. This is to be an 800-volt electric car in the 3 Series segment. It is unclear whether the German automaker will provide more precise data on the powertrain or focus on design and some connectivity features.

After its preview on Saturday, 2 September, the study will be officially presented on the first day of the trade show (5 September) at the Munich Exhibition Centre, with the BMW booth in Hall A2. In addition to the BMW Vision New Class, the BMW i7 Protection, an armoured version of its i7 luxury electric sedan, will be unveiled at the booth, along with the iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell small series model.

As the dual trade show concept at IAA Mobility involves both a presence at the show’s  “Open Space” in the city centre, as well as in the exhibition hall (where the IAA Mobility Summit officially takes place), the German legacy carmaker, will also show presence on Munich’s Max-Joseph-Platz. Here, two electric models from BMW’s Mini brand will celebrate their world premieres: the new Mini Cooper and the new Mini Countryman. But here, too, there will be a pre-show unveiling before the show.

The other vehicles on display at the Open Space are what the carmaker says are “all about locally emission-free mobility.”  Guests will see the new i5 ahead of its market debut and electric cars such as the iX1, i4, iX and i7. The BMW Vision New Class will also be displayed at the Open Space after its debut at the IAA Mobility Summit. BMW Motorrad will showcase its new CE 02 electric two-wheeler around the show.

Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from September 5 to 9 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 10.
