Pininfarina unveils all-electric “hyper Barchetta” B95
Automobili Pininfarina has unveiled an electric open-top supercar at Monterey Car Week in California. The model, called B95, will be available to buy, but only for a highly exclusive clientele.
Automobili Pininfarina wants to produce no more than ten B95 hypercars and deliver from 2025 – at a price of at least 4.4 million euros per piece, nearly 5 million dollars.
The B95 borrows its drive from the electric GT super sports car Battista, out since 2022 and also on display in Monterey. This means: four independent in-wheel motors unleash a peak power of 1,400 kW and accelerate the B95 from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. The top speed is more than 300 kph. The T-shaped, liquid-cooled battery pack holds 120 kWh in a solid but lightweight carbon fibre casing and can be charged with up to 270 kW.
The five driving modes adjust the power delivery of the four e-motors and the interaction of the motors. The driving behaviour of the electric super sports car can be decisively influenced via the different degrees of torque vectoring (simple example: the wheels on the outside of the bend are supplied with more power and thus support cornering).
The model designation B95 is easily explained: the “B” stands for the “Barchetta” body concept, the 95 for the planned start of delivery in 2025 – the Pininfarina design house will turn 95 that year. In Italian, “Barchetta” stands for a small boat. This is precisely what these cars are supposed to offer, a purist space for two people with a simple fabric top. Probably the best-known model in the line is the small Fiat convertible called the Barchetta.
The Pininfarina B95 will be purist, but it will probably not be simple, given the price. One example is its electrical aeroscreen. The polycarbonate windscreen can be raised for more comfort if desired but can also be lowered again for design reasons.
“The Automobili Pininfarina B95 could have been created simply as an all-electric hyper Barchetta, however we wanted to make it so much more than that,” said Andrea Crespi, Chief Technical Officer, Automobili Pininfarina. “The application of technology to create our adjustable aero screens is inspired by two-wheel motor racing – ensuring this is a pioneering road car. This patented new technology enables the pure thrill of open-top driving, yet in comfort even at the high speed that the B95 is capable to reach.”
