Volvo CE starts EV production in the US

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has started electric machine production in the United States at its headquarters in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Production is starting with the company's newest vehicle, the DD25 Electric Compactor.

As Volvo CE writes, the first models are expected to be delivered in early 2024, and the company aims to have 35% of its product line fully electric by 2030.

“Volvo’s clean-energy electric compactor, the first of its kind to be developed and made entirely in America, reflects the law’s promise to re-energize American manufacturing by supporting our manufacturers and workers as they lead the way in a booming new industry and meet the rising demand for electric vehicles,” said Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, Jr. “This is a monumental day at Volvo CE,” added Scott Young, acting president of Region North America, Volvo CE. “Manufacturing electric machines in Shippensburg is good news for the environment, our customers, the local economy, and the broader U.S. construction equipment industry.”

At the same time, Volvo also used the occasion to announce that it will receive a $1.1 million grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to run a pilot testing project of the DD25 Electric in Southern California.

In January this year, Volvo CE announced plans to heavily invest in vehicle production capacities, specifically with the investment of 5.8 million euros in their production facility in Arvika, Sweden.
