GreenPower scores Nevada school bus order
In the USA, GreenPower Motor announced an order for 15 GreenPower Type D all-electric purpose-built Beast school buses for the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Nevada.
CCSD is the fifth-largest school district in the country, operating 1,924 buses that transport 125,000 students daily. The order for the 15 GreenPower Beasts comes a few months after the school district put its first GreenPower Type D Beast school bus into service.
The 15 Type D Beast electric school buses from GreenPower are being purchased with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program. Green Power revealed that this electric vehicle is eligible for $375,000 in grant funding through the program for priority school districts.
The electric bus is a purpose-built, 40-foot Type D all-electric, zero-emission school bus with seating for up to 90 passengers. The electric bus features an integrated chassis with an all-aluminium body, which enables pass-through storage underneath the bus. The dual port charging is standard, with Level 2 rates up to 19.2 kW and DC Fast Charging rates up to 85 kW. GreenPower has integrated wireless charging into its product array and says this is also available for this vehicle.
GreenPower recently scored another such order in the USA, with West Virginia acquiring 41 GreenPower battery-electric school buses for $15 million. The purchase included both Type D Beast vehicles, as above, and Type A Nano BEAST school buses. GreenPower launched the Nano Beast Type A electric school bus in March last year. The smaller Nano electric bus seats 24 passengers.
