Equipmake to supply electric motors for e-planes

The UK-based electric drive specialist Equipmake has signed an agreement with electric aerospace propulsion company H55. The companies will work on production-ready, certified electric propulsion systems for the BRM Aero project.

As part of the deal, Equipmake will supply its electric motors for use in zero emission aircraft. Certification is planned for the end of 2024.

“I am pleased to see our collaboration taking this important step, as we have many customers looking forward to using this technology. This partnership is very complimentary, coupling Equipmake’s experience in motor design and serial production with H55’s propulsion and battery expertise: all the prerequisites for a successful collaboration,” says André Borschberg, Executive Chairman at H55.

Equipmake and H55 have worked together in the past; this agreement builds on that existing relationship.

The plane ready to take off due to this agreement is the Bristell Energic. The two-seater is manufactured by BRM Aero and powered by the H55 propulsion system.

The latest Bristell Energic model went on its maiden flight in 2019. It is conceived as an electric flight trainer aeroplane and has received interest from flight schools, airport resident associations and aviation authorities. H55 aims to move from prototype to full manufacturing.
