Indian start-up plans 1,000 fast-chargers nationwide
The Indian start-up GO EC Autotech wants to install 1,000 DC chargers nationwide. Apparently, it will also install these in more remote locations, making it easier for people there to adopt electric cars.
“A notable hurdle faced by electric vehicle owners is the absence of sufficient charging infrastructure, making long-distance travel a daunting task,” says P G Ramnath, GO EC’s CEO and Executive Director.
GO EC is based in the state of Kerala, located on the southern tip of India. It says it already operates 103 EV chargers in India, most of them in Kerala.
“With the new project, we plan to expand our footprint by strategically positioning the charging stations in capitals, state highways, and national highways along with Tier-2, and Tier-3 cities and rural places in the country,” the company said in a release.
India supports the installation of public EV chargers through its FAME 2, which stands for ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles’. The programme runs until 31 May 2024.
