Be.EV to install charging network in Trafford
Trafford Council in Greater Manchester has announced installing a new wave of EV chargers in partnership with charging network Be.EV. Two dozen state of the chargers are set to go live across Trafford throughout the summer.
In terms of income and costs for the construction of the new charging stations, all are to be funded by Be.EV with a contribution of the profits to Trafford Council once they are up and running. Most of the charging stations are planned to be rapid or ultra-rapid capacity chargers, which can charge a typical battery-electric car to 80% in 20 minutes to an hour.
Four of the charging hubs are already active and ready for use, with the locations of Balmoral Road, James Street, Regent Road and Trafford town hall chosen to spearhead the construction efforts. Trafford Council began working with Be.EV in 2022 to develop an electric vehicle charging strategy that would suit the requirements of the community. Since then, 41 charging stations have been installed across the region serving 81 parking bays, with another 46 chargers in the planning stage.
“Our ongoing partnership with Trafford will see our reliable network of charging hubs continue to expand, and other councils should be taking note. Without this type of commitment from local authorities, we’ll never see a successful transition to electric vehicles,” said Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV.
Councillor Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, added: “This expansion is a key element in our commitment to tackling climate change, as we aim for Trafford to be carbon neutral by 2038.”
Just a few months ago, another charging network construction plan was revealed in Manchester, with the work being done by Apcoa, which is working towards its target of installing 500 charging stations across the UK.
