Aerolease orders up to 50 electric airplanes
Eviation Aircraft has landed another order for its all-electric plane Alice. It will deliver up to 50 units to the aviation leasing company Aerolease. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect, which has now been announced at the Paris Air Show.
“As we gather for the Paris Air Show, the aerospace industry is facing increasing pressure to turn sustainable solutions into reality,” said Eddie Jaisaree, Vice President, Commercial Sales at Eviation. “The Alice aircraft meets the demand for zero-carbon technology that we are seeing from governments, regulators, and the public, while offering a more enjoyable flight experience and lower operating costs.”
“We work with major airlines around the world, and we know from many conversations that sustainability is a major concern,” adds Jep Thornton, Managing Partner of Aerolease. “New projects that address sustainability are key to our future strategy and we are excited to be working with Eviation to offer our global customers a zero-emissions solution that is good for the planet and provides an exciting means of opening up new regional routes.”
The Alice had reportedly completed its maiden flight in September. Alice is an electric aircraft for nine passengers and two crew members, powered by two magni650 electric propulsion units, each producing 640 kW of power from magniX. The promise: Operating costs per flight hour are said to be a “fraction” compared to light jets or high-end turboprop aircraft, which is why (in theory) even less frequented routes can be served economically.
Eviation Aircraft says it has so far collected (potential) orders worth more than 4 billion US dollars. Other customers include DHL Express, Evia Aero, which is developing a sustainable regional airline, the Australian scheduled and charter airline Northern Territory Air Services (NTAS), and the UK-based regional aircraft lessor Monte.
