Watford to expand public charging infrastructure

The Watford Borough Council has announced that it will be installing 79 new electric vehicle charging points across the town over the next few months. The newly added charging stations will bring the total number to 102 EV charging points in Watford.

The project was spearheaded by Watford Borough Council and is receiving financial support from the government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). About 60 per cent of the funding for Watford comes from OZEV, while the other 40% of the installation costs are sourced through the council’s contract with partners Blink Charging. The total investment for the new charging infrastructure construction is £1.3 million.

“We are delighted that we will be installing 79 new EV charging points across the town. This is a significant step towards our goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transport,” said Mayor Peter Taylor, adding: “Watford’s commitment to green transport has already resulted in significant achievements, including being ranked in the top 5 UK towns. This achievement is a testament to the town’s commitment to a cleaner environment and underscores the importance of investing in sustainable transport infrastructure for a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
