Engie launches dedicated charging business Engie Vianeo in France
Energy company Engie Group has launched a new subsidiary called Engie Vianeo, dedicated to providing charging solutions for electric vehicles. Under the new brand, Engie will offer 12,000 charge points for electric cars and heavy commercial vehicles in France by 2025.
Starting this June, electric car drivers in France will encounter the Engie Vianeo brand as the company rolls out its services to an initial network of 1,000 charge points nationwide. These charge points are already operational and include over 800 locations on motorway networks such as APRR, SANEF, Vinci Autoroutes, and ESSO (Certas Energy France). Additionally, ENGIE Vianeo will be available at 35 Indigo car parks in 20 French towns and cities, as well as at roadside charge points in Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Communauté d’Agglomération d’Epinal, and Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. The company also mentions hundreds of hotels featuring Vianeo charging points in their car parks.
The above network and cooperations rely on existing deals Engie announced in September 2022.
Now looking ahead, Engie Vianeo has ambitious plans to expand its charging network. By 2025, the company aims to have an additional 11,000 electric charge points accessible to all drivers in France.
Frank Lacroix, the Executive VP of Energy Solutions at Engie Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to decarbonising mobility and Engie’s expertise in financing, design, construction, and operation of infrastructure. He also made a point that Engie caters to various sectors, including businesses such as hotels or rest stops but also cities; the company, for example, contracts with Strasbourg and the Métropole d’Aix-Marseille-Provence to provide charging infrastructure in the coming years.
These advances are now bundled in Engie Vianeo. Customers may access the services via a dedicated website and a mobile app. These platforms offer an interactive map displaying all Engie Vianeo stations and the real-time availability of charge points across France. Engie also mentions a smart route planner tailored to a driver’s vehicle type and the remaining battery power.
Once they find charging stations, customers have three payment options: they can use the mobile app by scanning the charging station’s QR code, make a contactless payment with a bank card, or use the “Ma Carte de Recharge” charging card by Engie. Pricing includes €0.57 per kWh for 300kW charges at motorway service stations and €0.69 per kWh at partner Esso pit stops operated by CERTAS Energy France.
Engie adds the electricity supplied is 100% produced from renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind and solar.
