Buick presents the Electra E4 in China

The General Motors subsidiary Buick has introduced its second electric vehicle for the Chinese market shortly after the launch of its first electric model Electra E5 in China. The Buick Electra E4 is a coupé SUV that is also built on General Motors’ Ultium platform.

Buick does not yet go into technical details in the official announcement, but it is known from an earlier registration application with the Chinese authorities that the Electra E4 is powered by a 180 kW electric motor. A version with two electric motors is expected to follow later. The battery is to have LFP cells, but the range data remains unknown. The price of the Electra E4 is expected to be in the range of 200,000 to 300,000 yuan. However, there is no further information on the market launch so far.

Only a few days ago, Buick announced that it had started deliveries of the Electra E5 in China. The model is offered there in five variants at surprisingly low prices starting at 208,900 yuan (around 27,500 euros). Buick has priced the most expensive variant at 278,900 yuan or around 36,800 euros. This means that even the top model is priced below the similarly sized BYD Tang EV (from 282,800 yuan or 37,300 euros). The world’s best-selling car in Q1, the Tesla Model Y, costs from 261,900 yuan (34,550 euros) in China, but is around 15 centimetres shorter than the two models mentioned.

The Buick Electra E5 is manufactured at SAIC-GM’s new plant in Wuhan, which opened at the beginning of the year. There the manufacturer plans to exclusively build Ultium electric vehicle models.
